“Service, service, service is the answer,” says Ray Ackerman, funeral director at Schultz Funeral Homes with locations in DeWitt and Grand Mound, Iowa.
Ackerman enjoys working alongside the firm’s owners Patricia and Douglas Schultz, his mother- and father-in-law, and staff members J and Jeannette Erickson to anticipate the needs of families.
“In our area, we’re one of the leaders in terms of the personalization of printed material,” Ackerman says. “We also were one of the first local funeral homes to have a website and publish online photo tributes,
and we continue to look for more user-friendly, hands-on services we can provide.”
Although the firm offers big-city technology options to families, the staff prides itself on a small-town touch. “Instead of talking to whomever is on call at the time, individuals will always see someone from our family,” Ackerman says. “Also, we try to help in many ways like assisting with
filing life insurance claims or offering to do errands like running a paper to the courthouse.”
Schultz Funeral Homes partners with Homesteaders because of their similar philosophies about providing excellent service. “I’ve taken a look at other insurance companies and found Homesteaders to be the best of the best,” Ackerman says. “Homesteaders is progressive in its approach by providing the ability to electronically fill out applications and have the funds set up to draw. Also from the ease of claims to the friendly customer service staff, Homesteaders is very well rounded.”
“Although funeral service has changed over the years, the philosophy of our staff and Homesteaders hasn’t changed,” Ackerman says. “It’s still based on service to the grieving.”
