Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered below, please contact Homesteaders Customer Service.

Q.How do I get answers to questions about my funeral plan?
A.Homesteaders recommends that you contact your funeral service provider with any questions about your funeral plan.
Q.What are my payment options with Homesteaders?
A.You can pay for the entire policy up front ("Single Payment Option") or, depending on your age, the product and the state of issue, you can pay for the policy over a number of years, such as three, five or 10 years.
Q.I prearranged a funeral and wrote a check to the funeral home. Why am I getting an insurance policy from Homesteaders, and who is Homesteaders Life Company?
A.The payment you made to the funeral home covers the premium(s) required for Homesteaders to issue a policy associated with the prearranged funeral plan. Homesteaders is a pre-need insurance company that provides funeral funding insurance. You may find more information about Homesteaders in the "For Policy Owners" section and "About Homesteaders" section of this Web site.
Q.When I purchased my Homesteaders policy, I specified that I want my pre-authorized check withdrawal to occur on the fifth day of each month. Sometimes the actual withdrawal date is after that. Why?
A.Homesteaders sends the withdrawal request to the bank for the fifth day of each month, but delays in processing due to holidays, weekends or other special circumstances, may cause the actual withdrawal date to be later than the date requested. If your transaction occurs much later than the date you requested, please contact customer service at 800-477-3633 Monday through Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Central time and Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Central time.
Q.If I choose the multiple payment option and later decide to pay off the policy, can I do that and will it cost me any extra money?
A.Homesteaders offers an Early Pay-Off option and there are fees involved. Fees are not punitive, however; they are calculated to help to offset the difference in costs associated with issuing shorter-term plans. Please contact your funeral home or the pre-need associate with whom you arranged your advance funeral plan. If you do not have or cannot locate this contact information, please call Homesteaders Customer Service at 800-477-3633. We'll be glad to assist you.
Q.What if I want to make a change to my funeral plan?
A.Changes to your funeral plan might require changes to your Homesteaders policy, so you should contact the individual with whom you made your advance funeral plans. Your agent will contact Homesteaders to ensure your wishes are met.
Q.The insured died before the policy was fully paid, and the face amount didn’t cover the funeral cost even though the funeral home guaranteed the price at the time arrangements were made. What happened?
A.If the insured cannot answer "No" to both health questions on a multiple payment policy and dies before the limited death benefit period expires, the funeral will not be fully funded. Depending on the payment plan elected, only a portion of the face amount is available until the limited death benefit period is reached. The funeral agreement states that, in these cases, the family is obliged to pay the difference.
