The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) is the largest membership organization in the funeral profession. More than 19,700 individuals – and 10,000 funeral homes – are members, representing funeral professionals in nearly 50 countries. Their annual convention, held last week in Philadelphia, showcases the best and brightest in funeral service, including networking events, updates on the latest industry innovations and educational resources to improve the services funeral professionals offer grieving families.
Couldn’t make it to Philadelphia? Not to worry! We’ve collected a few highlights for you.
Monday’s opening session featured a number of exciting announcements, including the unveiling of the Funeral Service Foundation’s newest initiative – Fund ’45. The new fundraising effort is designed to encourage individual contributions to support the Foundation’s mission.
Throughout convention, the Funeral and Memorial Information Council (FAMIC) promoted their November consumer awareness campaign: Time for Family, Time for Talk, which encourages families to use dinnertime holiday celebrations to Have the Talk of a Lifetime®. They’ve even developed conversation cards to prompt the discussion.
Once again, members of the Homesteaders Tech Team were busy during this year’s convention, debuting the myHomesteaders app – a 2016 Innovation Award finalist. More than 80 funeral professionals stopped by the Homesteaders booth in the expo hall to download the app. One lucky user even won a new iPhone 7!
Homesteaders also announced an exciting new partnership with DISRUPT Media, a social media content agency that focuses on storytelling for funeral home businesses. Homesteaders customers can use their PartnerPoints® rewards to take advantage of exclusive social media service packages. Contact your Homesteaders account executive to learn more about this new offering.
The NFDA convention boasts the world’s largest funeral service expo, and many Homesteaders partners were there to discuss exciting new product and service offerings:
- Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions, which partners with Homesteaders to offer the Casket Price Protection Plan, introduced a new catalog app. The mobile tool makes it easier for funeral professionals to browse and present caskets, urns and keepsakes on their smartphones or tablets.
- ClearPoint Federal Bank & Trust announced the expansion of the Homesteaders Assurance Trust® to a new state. Funeral professionals in Connecticut can now experience the convenience and security of the trust insurance option. Contact your Homesteaders account executive to learn more.
Throughout convention, attendees shared their experiences on social media in the NFDA Chat Room, sponsored by Homesteaders and DISRUPT Media. Check out the official event hashtag – #nfda2016 – to see their updates.
