Homesteaders Life Company Named Top Workplace for Fourth Year

West Des Moines, Iowa — Homesteaders Life Company, a national leader in preneed funeral funding, has been named a Top Iowa Workplace for 2018. The annual award recognizes companies that exhibit outstanding employee satisfaction and organizational health. This is the fourth consecutive year Homesteaders has received the honor.

“I am proud to be part of an organization that has an incomparable company culture,” said Homesteaders President and CEO Steve Shaffer. “The hard work and dedication of our entire staff have made this award possible year after year. Our team’s efforts uphold our core mission to support the success of our funeral home customers and promote the value of funeral service.”

This year’s honorees were chosen based on the results of an employee feedback survey conducted by The Des Moines Register in conjunction with Energage, LLC (formerly WorkplaceDynamics). More than 90% of Homesteaders employees participated, reporting high satisfaction in the areas of alignment, communication, appreciation and work/life balance.

“We are thrilled to be named a Top Iowa Workplace for the fourth year in a row,” said Homesteaders Executive VP-Human Resources Judy Ralston-Hansen. “It’s a testament to our strong leadership, supportive culture and our talented team of employees within Homesteaders that we rank high in employee satisfaction and engagement each year. I would like to thank each of our employees for creating such a rewarding and positive work environment.”

Homesteaders retains 169 employees at its home office in West Des Moines and a team of 30 sales staff in the field. In addition to competitive compensation and benefits, the company offers professional development opportunities, a success-sharing program, an incentive award program and commitments to employee health and community outreach.
