Frequently Asked Questions

Q.How many funeral homes have joined with Homesteaders?
A.More than 3,000 funeral homes across America turn to us because we have a singular commitment to their success – success at growing their business by being a more complete resource to families in their community.
Q.Why should I fund my families' advance funeral plans with an insurance policy instead of using some other option?
A.First, the increased face amount on the policy is non-taxable. Interest on other funding options is generally taxable, which requires individuals to file an IRS Form 1099 each year along with other tax forms. Second, if your client chooses a multiple payment insurance plan from Homesteaders, the funeral is fully funded from the date of policy issue if he or she can answer "No" to the health questions and if the insured signs the Enrollment Form. Third, insurance companies are required by law to set aside financial reserves to cover anticipated death benefits -- this ensures the long-term security of the family's funeral funds.
Q.What do you mean by, "A Singular Commitment?"
A.All we do is funeral funding and support. Our resources are dedicated to financial and operational performance to benefit policy owners, funeral service and our funeral home customers.
Q.What do you mean by "Preserving the value of funeral service?"
A.A myth is that this means "helping funeral homes sell more expensive funerals." The fact is, "value" is in the mind of the consumer. We offer resources and support that help our funeral home customers educate consumers about the unique knowledge, skill and experience they offer when they are considering end-of-life decisions. Most consumers today believe a full service funeral is important, regardless of the means of disposition. Yet many families choosing cremation do not understand a funeral professional can also help them plan a celebration that occurs before or after cremation. We work to support this important and ongoing dialogue that needs to occur between funeral service providers and consumers.
Q.Explain "Instant Claims."
A.Homesteaders has created an exclusive Instant Claims draft that saves time for you and your families. Once you determine the policy proceeds amount (either by calling customer service or logging in to our secure Internet portal), you simply fill out the Instant Claims draft and enjoy the convenience of same-day bank deposit of policy proceeds.
Q.How do you determine policy growth?
A.Homesteaders policy growth is discretionary, reviewed by our Board of Directors. We offer a variety of funding products with varying levels of growth, commissions, enrollee eligibility, payment plans and premiums to meet any funeral home customer or consumer need. The priority is on long-term policy owner security so that Homesteaders and you may keep our promise to families -- that their funeral funds will be here when they need them.
Q.How does your casket protection program work?
A.Homesteaders is recognized for its unique and sustained casket price protection program. Aurora Casket Company is our flagship casket alliance partner, offering a casket price freeze plus a 2% wholesale price rollback for qualifying funeral home customers.
