Who I Am

A native Nebraskan, I was raised in Grand Island and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. I spent many years as a radio marketing consultant, which taught me a great deal about designing successful marketing plans. I joined Homesteaders in 2005, encouraged by my husband Dean who has been with the company since 1998. Dean and I have two grown daughters, McKenzie and Annie. Our son Adam, a USMC Veteran, passed away at age 24 in 2015. We live just outside of Des Moines, Iowa with two Border Collies. For fun I enjoy playing piano, gardening, riding on the back of Dean’s Harley-Davidson and driving my old MINI Cooper with the top down.

Why I Joined Homesteaders

I had the advantage of knowing a little bit about Homesteaders before joining the company as an account executive. Right from the beginning I enjoyed being part of the Homesteaders family (and it really is a family). I was confident my training as a radio marketing consultant would bring value to Homesteaders’ funeral home customers. Every day I am able to put my education and skills to work helping my funeral home customers plan and execute successful marketing efforts resulting in the long-term success of their businesses.

What I Do

Not every funeral home owner runs his or her business the same way. I enjoy listening to my customers and learning how Homesteaders can be a part of their long term success story. We examine strengths and weaknesses and together create a Success Plan that takes into account the skills of the people in the firm along with opportunities presented in the community. Each firm has its own potential — the fun part for me is to recommend a marketing strategy that brings it all together. Finally—after we’ve tracked progress over a year’s time—I love to see when everything worked and watch the business grow! And, of course, looking for more opportunities to continue that success.
